MANCHESTER MAYOR TED GATSAS ANNOUNCES HE WILL SEEK RE-ELECTION

Mayor Gatsas reviews progress made under his leadership and makes commitments for the future
 

MANCHESTER, NH –Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas today announced he’s seeking re-election for Mayor of Manchester this fall: 

“I am running for re-election. Manchester is experiencing unprecedented economic growth.  Everyday there is something new and exciting happening here in Manchester.  I am proud of all that our city has achieved together, and in the next two years we will build on this foundation for the good of all.

On Boosting the Queen City Economy: “ During my term as Mayor I have worked tirelessly with businesses, entrepreneurs and developers to foster an economic environment where they can grow and succeed.  This summer Manchester’s Millyard will officially become home to Dean Kamen’s Advanced Regional Manufacturing Institute (A.R.M.I).  This will be the exclamation point on the evolution of the Millyard from textiles to tech.  In the next two years, we will streamline the process for city developers by automating the city’s permitting, licensing and inspection functions so developers can track project progress online and in real time so they know Manchester is open for business.

Keeping our Streets and Neighborhoods Safe: “ One of my most important roles as Mayor is working with city law enforcement to keep our city safe.  The current police complement is at its highest level in city history and we are investing in predictive policing technologies to prevent crime.  The combined result of these efforts is a decrease in the city’s overall crime rate.  In the next two years, we will maintain our complement, continue to invest in technology to enhance the crime fighting capability of our police force, and we will battle the increase of panhandling activity within the city.

Dealing with the Opioid Crisis Head On: “ Manchester is on the front line of the opioid epidemic, we have responded, we have led, and we will continue this fight against the epidemic in our community.    Working with our emergency service providers and recovery community we implemented the nationally recognized Safe Station program.  Since the program’s inception is has helped nearly 2,000 individuals suffering from substance abuse disorder get connected with treatment.  In the next two years, I will continue the city’s support for the Safe Station program, and we will address the need for safe recovery housing in our community.

Improving Educational Opportunities for our Students: “ As Chairman of the School Board I have worked to increase educational opportunity for city students.  The Manchester School of Technology is now a full-time four-year high school offering a career technical education so students are workforce ready on graduation day.  We continue to expand the FIRST Jr. STEAM Ahead Program in city elementary schools introducing young students early to S.T.E.A.M. education.  In the next two years, our top priority must be to meaningfully redistrict city schools to address the need for additional capacity in the elementary schools to lower class sizes.

Improving City Infrastructure: “ I will continue our investment in the city’s infrastructure, parks and natural resources, recognizing their importance to business development and our residents’ quality of life.  This year the city will see a $4.5 million investment for our roads; the continued development and connection of our rail trail system and the repurposing of the Dupont Pool to a splash pad.  In the next two years, I will continue to provide funding for citywide road improvements and enhance our parks including the rehabilitation of the turf at the city’s historic Gill Stadium.

Protecting our Environment and Conserving our Energy: “ As Mayor I have taken a responsible approach to energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives to benefit city taxpayers.  I led the cities conversion of our street lighting to LED that saved taxpayers over $600,000 in energy costs.  Building projects within the city, including the Manchester Municipal Complex, have been done responsibly and used LEED principals in the building to ensure energy and environmental efficiency.  In the next two years, I will continue our commitment to update city buildings making them energy efficient providing real savings to city taxpayers.

Responsible Budgeting and Safeguarding Taxpayer Dollars: “ As Mayor I have always budgeted responsibly.  With every financial decision I make for the city I have provided for an honest dialogue about the balance between the fiscal capacity of the city with what the taxpayers can afford.  In the next two years, I will continue to balance these needs, as I always have, within the voter approved tax cap.

Mayor Gatsas concluded by noting, “ I am going to run a vigorous campaign and work hard to earn the votes of my fellow residents.  I look forward to going door-to-door, neighborhood to neighborhood talking to people across the city about the progress we are making, my vision for the future and how we can move Manchester forward together.”

About Mayor Ted Gatsas:
Mayor Ted Gatsas is a lifelong resident of Manchester. He attended Manchester public schools and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Ted, and his brother Michael, co-founded Staffing Network, an employee-leasing company that grew to be one of the largest employers in New England before being acquired by ADP Payroll.

Ted is Manchester’s 47th Mayor currently serving his fourth term.  Prior to his service as Mayor he served as the Ward 2 Alderman and State Senator representing District 16.  

Ted lives in Ward 2 with his wife Cassandra.
