Sullivan: Bill becomes law
Governor Chris Sununu made House Bill 1 0 3 law with his signature, yesterday. That’s the legislation proposed by State Rep. Victoria Sullivan, Republican from Manchester Ward Nine, that requires school districts to provide at least two weeks advance notice to parents of course material involving discussion of human sexuality or human sexual education. The bill had been opposed by Planned Parenthood, the A C L U and multiple taxpayer funded school groups who claimed the law would censor what was taught in classes. In arguing for the bill, Sullivan pointed to current law that already gives parents the right to opt their children out of lessons the believe contains objectionable material, but fails to require that parents be notified in advance that the material is coming into the classroom.
Sununu: Law will involve parents in important discussions
After signing the bill, Sununu issued a statement saying, quote:
This bipartisan legislation is consistent with my longtime support for measures that further empower parents’ involvement in their child’s education. New Hampshire is now joining with 22 other states and the District of Columbia in ensuring school districts allow parental involvement when sensitive topics and materials are discussed in the classroom. It is important to let parents know what students are learning and this bill encourages clear and open lines of communication regarding curriculum content in this important area.

Following the bill’s signing, the non-partisan issues advocacy organization Cornerstone Action, issued a statement asking those who supported the bill to call or email the governor to thank him for signing it into law. Sununu pitches to the House again
The governor, by the way, will be testifying in support of S B 1 9 1 today, before the House Education Committee. That’s the bill that targets aid to communities that provide full day kindergarten. The House nixed funding for that initiative in the budget it couldn’t pass, but the Senate passed a separate bill on the matter, which is now before the House.

Senate Bill 3, an act “relative to establishing a domicile for voting purposes,” goes before the House Election Law Committee in Representatives Hall this morning at ten. The bill, which has the backing of the G O P establishment, has drawn fire from Democrats as something that would suppress the vote, by among other things, disenfranchising college students. Don’t believe it. The bill, as written, contains specific allowances enabling students at “institutions of higher learning” to use their temporary dorm rooms as permanent legal domiciles, all legal definitions of the word domicile to the contrary, for the purpose of voting.

Moreover, those who fail to provide the quote unquote required documents to prove identity or address, will still be allowed to sign an affidavit attesting to their identity and or address, meaning the documents aren’t required, and vote, but they have to provide proper documents within ten to thirty days or face prosecution, which means, if they came here to cheat, like Michael LsSean Lewis who came from Georgia, or was it Florida, I don’t remember because he also voted in both those states before voting in Hooksett for President in November, will never be held to account.

Manchester PD pulling out all the stops!
The Manchester Police Department has announced it will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s semi-annual Drug Take Back Day on April 29th. Unused and unwanted prescription medications can be dropped off at Elliot at River’s Edge, Catholic Medical Center, the Army National Guard Armory and the Manchester Police Department Headquarters from ten to two.

In conjunction with the drug take back, the M P D has also announced it will provide document shredding services free of charge, courtesy of Iron Mountain Services, in an effort to combat identity fraud. Just bring the sensitive documents you’d like destroyed to Police H Q and they’ll take care of the rest. While you’re there, you can check out the department’s SWAT vehicle, new cruisers and S U Vs, A T Vs, the Crime Scene Truck and OOOHHH sooo much more as they’ll also be hosting one of their famous Touch A Truck events, just to add to the fun.
MFD: Burning banned until further notice
The Milford Fire Department has announced that, due to extremely dry conditions, it will not be issuing burning permits and burning is otherwise not allowed. Their notice was all caps, meaning they were screaming about it, so don’t spark up your lawn or bonfire in Milford until further notice, please.
