Chair of the New Hampshire State Board of Education, Tom Raffio returned to the “Inside Education” microphone and shared his ideas on a number of critical education issues. Discussions revolved around school choice which included vouchers and charter schools, the implementation of the new “Every Student Succeeds Act,” and the nomination of Betsy De Vos as President-Elect Trump’s Secretary of Education. Much attention was paid to the question of how American history is taught in our public schools and what can be done to improve its teaching and learning. Learning how to deal with the new forms of communication such as social media as well as understanding the “old media” was introduced as a critical issue in the education of our young people and suggestions were made on possible beginnings in dealing with such challenges.
