Sununu: Transition team leadership annonced
Governor-elect Chris Sununu has announced the leadership of his transition team. The transition will be led by Sununu’s campaign manager, Paul Collins and Jamie Burnett, an advisor and former aide to senators John E. Sununu and Judd Gregg. Collins has been an integral member of the Sununu political machine going back to the days of the first Sununu governorship back in the 1 9 8 0’s. In making the announcement, the governor-elect said he’d committed to voters that he’d make government better serve the people and to do that, the work had to begin now.
Morse: Another term at the helm on the horizon
Meanwhile, the Senate’s Republican Caucus unanimously chose Senator Chuck Morse of Salem to serve another term as President of the Senate.
Senator Jeb Bradley R-Wolfeboro said Morse quote:
has led the way in working with all senators to address the challenges facing our communities across the state. Senator Morse has also successfully led the legislature in growing our State’s Rainy Day Fund by $130 million, and cutting taxes for small businesses which has spurred job growth and increased revenues for our state.
Senator Gary Daniels of Milford said Morse will continue the fight to improve the economy and keep government out of taxpayers’ wallets.
Nashua Senator Kevin Avard said Morse has proven that he is committed to addressing issues facing our communities, including the heroin and opioid crisis, restoring educational choice and freedom as well as ensuring our state has a strong economy by continuing to work to create jobs and improve the lives of our citizens.
Even Governor-Elect Sununu applauded the decision, saying Morse has been and will continue to be a great leader and that he was looking forward to working with him over the next two years quote
on the issues that require action and bold leadership.
Jasper: Speakership relelction in doubt
In the House of Representatives, the future of Speaker Shawn Jasper is in doubt as he will face strong opposition in the Republican Caucus from Bedford State Rep. Laurie Sanborn and Epsom State Rep. Carol McGuire. Jasper, a Republican from Hudson, was elected to the speakership in the last term by the entire Democratic Caucus in conjunction with about forty renegade Republicans who opposed the re-election of former Speaker Bill O’Brien of New Boston.

Big tax rate cut
The State Department of Revenue Administration has set the town of Merrimack’s 2 0 1 6 property tax rate at $2 2 . 7 9. This represents an decrease of $1.93 per thousand, nearly eight percent, compared to the 2015 rate of $2 4 . 7 2. All components of the rate decreased. With municipal rate decreasing by fifty eight cents, the school tax rate declining by a dollar four, the state property tax rate for schools going town twenty one cents and the county tax rate diving by a dime. Any resident with questions about their property tax assessment should contact the Assessing Department at 4 2 4-5 1 3 6. For any other tax-related question, please call the Town Clerk / Tax Collector’s office at 4 2 4-3 6 5 1.
Tax rate set, but details not released, yet
We have also learned the D R A set Manchester’s tax rate. According to a report in yesterday’s New Hampshire Sunday News, Manchester’s tax rate was set last week at $2 3 . 1 4, which is down thirty cents from the prior year’s $2 3 . 4 4, a decrease of 1.3 percent. Most Manchester residents will, however, still pay more in taxes, with at least a third paying much more as the revaluation done by the city pushed the value of the tax base up by five percent. Had the amount in taxes collected remained level, the tax rate would have gone down by five percent. We’ve requested the detailed breakdown from the city.
Auburn: More budget reviews
Budget presentations continue before the Auburn Board of Selectmen. Coming forward tonight in Town Hall starting at seven are the Conservation Commission, Town Clerk, Police Department, Executive Department, personnel pay raises and insurance benefits, Emergency Management, Mosquito Control, Recreation Improvements and a warrant article about a Mobile Radar Trailer.
Collecting Toys for Tots
The Manchester Police Department announced it is a drop off location for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Anyone wishing to drop off a new, unwrapped toy for the annual Toys for Tots drive may use the boxes in the lobby of the Manchester Police Department Headquarters at 4 0 5 Valley Street. The lobby is open to the public twenty four seven.

Seeks award nominations
The Cornerstone Award recognizes a staff or community member working within our schools who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in support of student learning and particularly whose service has been truly outstanding to the overall educational climate of the school district and who exhibits commitment, good human relations skills, loyalty, dedication and good organizational and work habits.
The Dream Keeper Award is presented in recognition of people or organizations that truly have gone the extra mile to make the Goffstown dream of providing a superior education a reality. This may include such things as acts of heroism, academic achievements, serving on national/regional boards, publishing or presenting and/or significant contributions to the district in service.
School district community members are encouraged to submit nomination forms for either award to the Goffstown School Board’s Planning and Communication Subcommittee c/o the SAU #19 Central Office no later than 4: 30 on Monday, November 28th.
