The Derry Town Council, Planning Board and Economic Development Advisory Committee will meet in joint session for a workshop this Tuesday night the eleventh at seven fifteen in the Derry Municipal Center. The topics of discussion will include economic development, how it’s impacted by current zoning and how it may be impacted by literal and philosophical changes to the zoning. The meeting will include a round table discussion to address the potential economic development along the proposed Exit 4 A Corridor from I 93 to Manchester Road and Route 2 8 south of Island Pond Road. Participants will also examine incentive tools available to the town, such as Tax Increment Financing Districts and Tax Revitalization Zones. The meeting is open to the public and we’ve linked to the agenda in case you want to take a look. There’s a lot on the table for discussion.
Also in Derry on the eleventh, the Veteran’s Tax Credit Sub-Committee will meet starting at 5:00 in Room 2 0 7 at the Derry Municipal Center.
The Amherst Board of Selectmen is encouraging all residents, businesses and industries to monitor water consumption and implement water conservation measures. Effective immediately, the town is asking all water users served either by private wells or the municipal water system to stop using water for any outdoor purposes, with the exception of vegetable gardens and newly planted vegetation. Curiously, the board announced all town owned properties and facilities will abide by this restriction. Nice to know they’re going to follow their own rules. Residents are also warned that continued drought conditions may create a supply shortage extending throughout the winter, especially for private wells. Even though this restriction is voluntary and temporary, all are strongly encouraged to conserve water to assist the town in meeting its water needs. The board included a link to the state Department of Environmental Services Web site to provide additional drought information. We have, of course, linked to it from this news read for your convenience.
