Stephen Kashen, Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern California visited “Inside Education” today. Professor Kashen at one time served in the Linguistics Department and in 1994 moved to become part of the faculty of the school of education. He is a well-known educational researcher and political activist. Professor Kashen shared his views on the new education law known as the “Every Student Succeeds Act,” testing, the teaching of reading and the effect poverty has had on American public education. Kashen encouraged listeners to write, on a consistent basis, letters to the editor as well as sending those same letters to state and federal legislators. He also encouraged listeners to use the technological tools such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate to folks throughout the country.
