Sid GlassnerSpeaking about two of the most prestigious awards given for  children’s literature and art, Sid spoke of how important the Newbery and Caldecott Award winning books are in the reading life of students.  Students should be encouraged to read these books and if the encouragement is not coming from the school than parents should obtain these books from the public library for their children.  These books can be shared with parents.  A recent report about technology (virtual learning)  and blended learning in classrooms showed no evidence that students using technology did better than those students who did not use technology.  Sid went over advice given to high school juniors who are beginning to think about college.  There was a unique side to this discussion in that the advice was given by college admissions officers to their own children.
