Parker Varney: Another award
Parker-Varney Elementary School in Manchester has won the National 2016 School Innovation and Change Award. The award comes with a ten thousand dollar prize to support the school’s ongoing efforts to change. Parker-Varney is one of just five elementary schools recognized across the country. The award includes national recognition in New York City with itinerant media coverage, subsidized participation of the school’s principal in the nineteenth Annual National Principals Leadership Institute, also in New York City, and a leadership consultation with a member of the group’s national faculty. Parker Varney will hold an award ceremony on the morning of May ninth at 9:30.
Manchester residents to have PFOA meeting.
An informational meeting will be held this week for residents in Manchester’s South End to discuss the discovery of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in some local water samples, including one private well in the Queen City. The meeting will be held at the Highland Goffe’s Falls Elementary School tomorrow night at six. Nearly thirty South End households in the tail section of the city with private wells have been specifically invited to attend the meeting, though it is open to the general public. This is the latest in a series of meetings that have been held in Merrimack, Litchfield and Bedford following disclosure by Saint Gobain that it had discovered the chemical in the water. The company uses the compound to make Teflon. Hundreds of households in the identified areas are using bottled water provided by the state for drinking and cooking until officials can determine what constitutes a safe level and how to remove it from contaminated wells.
Bradley: Another “deal” on power infractructure
The state Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved H B 1 6 6 0 last week. The bill provides protections for property owners against the use of eminent domain for gas pipeline projects in New Hampshire. Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley, Republican from Wolfeboro, issued a statement saying the bill found common ground between protecting private property rights without precluding the opportunity for reasonable, new energy infrastructure in the state. Said Bradley, quote:
…should there be new gas pipeline proposals, this bill will provide new protections for residents that I believe has a reasonable chance to withstand federal preemption.
Sanborn: Deal doesn’t go far enough
District Nine State Senator Andy Sanborn, Republican from Bedford, also released a statement after the committee’s vote expressing concern the bill doesn’t go far enough to protect property rights. Said Sanborn quote:
I remain concerned that this bill would not provide sufficient protections that New Hampshire residents deserve and that was desperately needed as part of this bill.

Gibson: State moves against brief its case
Just when you think you’ve seen it all in the state’s surrender to those who would commit voter fraud, now comes Assistant Attorney General Stephen Labonte’s objection to an Amicus Curiae Brief filed by Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers Chairman Ed Naile in the state’s case against Carl Robert Gibson, who has admitted to issuing a false press release in the name of then candidate for state rep. Yvonne Dean Bailey. In the release, Gibson, impersonating Bailey, said she was withdrawing from the special election to focus on her college studies and asked that people not vote for her as a result. Gibson was working for Dean Bailey’s opponent, former State Rep. Maureen Mann at the time the press release was sent. The state accused Gibson of engaging in voter suppression and charged him with a violation of several election laws.
Naile: Cant believe it, but
Naile submitted a twenty page Friend of the Court brief supporting the A G’s case, writing the purpose of his submission was quote
to add to this case evidence of what I believe is Carl Robert Gibson’s (Gibson) long established record of political theater and activism, some of which borders on deliberate criminal action.
Naile then went on to document fifteen instances of similar behavior, which included Gibson saying he regretted using an email that could be traced after issuing a fake press release from General Electric that caused a massive drop in its stock price.
In moving to strike Naile’s brief from the record, Labonte argued it wasn’t timely, useful or otherwise necessary to the administration of justice. Naile filed the brief in response to a motion made by Gibson’s attorneys to dismiss the case.
Riley, Anthony Perkins Brainard and Kevin Hardy
The Bedford Police Department arrested eight people for causing a riot-like situation outside of a Curtis Court residence Friday night. When police arrived on the scene, they found thirteen people, some armed with metal pipes, knives and a handgun. Eight of the people were there to confront the tenants of the home. The person responsible for orchestrating the assembly, twenty three year old Jeffrey Riley of Bedford, was armed with a loaded handgun and wearing a ballistic vest. He was arrested for Felony Riot and Felonious Use of Body Armor and was released on four thousand dollars personal recognizance bail. Seven other people were arrested and released on bails ranging from one thousand to four thousand dollars. Police Chief John Bryfonski said the department was investigating the circumstances surrounding the situation and asked anyone with information about it to call the department at 4 7 2 5 1 1 3.
