Kevin Vermille from the community of Deerfield and a former candidate for the school board there exchanged ideas about the nature and responsibilities of school board members among other relevant topics. Distinctions were made between management and leadership and how the lack of genuine leadership brings about a stagnating school environment laced with decisions that have little substance to support them. School boards must work to stimulate an environment that encourages folks in the community to participate in the work of the school board by asking the right questions and demanding answers that clarify the work of the local school district.
