We were joined this morning by Ann Marie Banfield, Education Liaison of Cornerstone Policy Research, for Is Our Children Learning. She and Rich started by hearing some breaking news about the Governor’s race from our loyal listener Patrice in Manchester. They then broke into a discussion about the gubernatorial race. They spoke about how education fits into the race and talked about the place of the Department of Education. Finally, we heard Ann Marie’s thoughts about the known candidates.

(Hour 3b) Rich and Ann Marie discussed the state assessments. We heard about the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the contradictions that are involved. They talked about the computerization of testing, which can cause complications with students.

(Hour 3c) “Why might a parent want to refuse the test?” Rich asked Ann Marie. They talked about resources for parents who want to know about the tests. They shared about homeschoolers and we heard about this morning’s Inside Education.
