Ward Results
The revised and complete elections results shed some light on what happened in yesterday’s election. According to City Clerk Matthew Normand, 12,290 votes were cast. This total represents a 22.5% turnout of all registered voters in the city – nearly identical to the average turnout of all municipal primaries (22.6%) over the past 35 years. The 12,290 vote total does, however, represent the highest number of votes cast in a city primary since 2001.
Given the revisions, mayoral candidate Joyce Craig will have to retract her claim of beating Mayor Ted Gatsas “outright in his home ward.” What the unofficial results tallied as a two vote victory for Craig in Ward 2, 552-550, became a 554 tie in the official results.
As a percentage of the total number of ballots cast, Gatsas, who won ten wards, received 5,188 votes or 42.2%. Craig, who won only her home ward, received 4,557 votes or 37%. Mayoral candidate Patrick Arnold received 1,861 votes or 15.1% Jawed Alibaba Shaika received 461 votes and Glenn RJ Ouellette received 117 to round out the field.
The top vote getter in the Alderman at Large race was “blank.” Votes weren’t cast for alderman at-Large on 6,248 ballots.
