(Hours 1a,b&c)
This, and the next two segments are an interview of Ben Dick, President of the M.E.A. In this archive he will outline a number of goals he has championed during his tenure, including attracting more high quality educators, improving family participation and support, and supporting what he calls a “parent portal.”
Is today’s high tech world a blessing or a curse? Reliance on electronic media can be problematic as it makes the curriculum more crowded, and forces teachers to wear more hats.
In a rapidly changing world, both schools and parents are faced with situations and choices that did not exist even a relatively few years ago.
In re-defining the role schools play in a students life, questions arise concerning where responsibility begins, and ends. Are schools responsible for what may be considered poor parenting choices, such as in appropriate dress in bad weather? How should schools address things such as morals, and belief systems?
Ben also explained to our listeners that sometimes the various factions in education feel that the support is not always there for them. Do state and federal mandates cause friction between teachers and administrators? More initiatives require more staffing, and expand teachers work load. Should we increase the time allotted for implementation of these programs.
