Gatsas: Saved Wihby's life

Gatsas: Saved Wihby’s life

Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas is a man who’s had many titles over the years:  Realtor, businessman, alderman, state senator, Senate President and mayor, of course.  To that list, looks like we can addthe titles “life saver” and “hero” as he came to the rescue of his long time friend David Wihby who apparently overdosed on prescription medication after returning home from his arrest for soliciting a prostitute in Nashua last Friday night.

According to the police report, Gatsas received a phone call from a mutual friend of his and Wihby’s, suggesting the mayor look in on his friend.  He hopped on his phone and spoke with Wihby’s wife Linda who said he was asleep and that she wouldn’t wake him.  Gatsas kept her on the phone while he drove over to Wihby’s house and asked her to come in when he got there.  According to the police report, which we’ve posted here at Girard at Large, it looks like it’s a good thing Gatsas insisted he see and speak with Wihby, who told his wife he wasn’t feeling well when he got home and was going to bed as a result.  They found him there, his lips blue, struggling to breath.

Unable to awake him, Gatsas immediately called 9 1 1.  During the call, he was instructed to perform C P R, with mouth to mouth resuscitation which revived Wihby.  Gatsas performed the life saving work until emergency personnel arrived.  Sources familiar with the situation have told Girard at Large that Wihby is alive today because of the mayor’s actions.  In an interview with Girard at Large, Gatsas declined to comment further on the matter, saying only his thoughts and prayers were with Wihby and his wife and family noting the challenges ahead.  Wihby is scheduled to be in Nashua District Court in May to face misdemeanor charges for solicitation of a prostitute.  He resigned his post as State Director for Senator Kelly Ayotte following his arrest.

Goffstown High: State trained them

Goffstown High: State trained them

The plot thickens in Goffstown.  As we reported yesterday, Goffstown High School is planning to administer the New Hampshire Youth Risk Behavior Survey tomorrow and notified parents.  We also reported we hoped to hear from Superintendent Brian Balke regarding the notice home and, among other things, why parents were required to go to the school to review a sample of the test in advance rather than making it available as the public document we believe it is.  Well, Balke replied, saying the following:

Those are the instructions we were given given from the DHHS.  I am attaching the training presentation and documents they sent us as verification if you need it.  Look at slide 15.  Essentially the State is saying:

  • If requested, allow parents to visit the school to preview the questionnaire – do not release the questionnaire or provide copies of the questionnaire
  • PASSIVE Parental Permission-Must be returned ONLY by those parents wishing to opt their child out of the survey.”  End quote.

We’ve uploaded the presentation and other materials we received from Balke, which includes a parental opt out form and frequently asked questions information sheet.  We are trying to determine whether or not those documents were sent with the email to parents as they were not included in the email we received from parents.  We’ll let you know.

Paul: Makes it official

Paul: Makes it official

Quote:  “We’ve come to take our country back from the special interests that use Washington as their personal piggy bank.  The special interests that are more concerned with their personal welfare than the general welfare.  The Washington machine that gobbles up our freedoms and invades every nook and cranny of our lives —must be stopped!  Less than 5 years ago, I stood just down the road in Bowling Green and said those same words after I won my primary.  I wasn’t supposed to win.  No one thought I would.  Some people asked me then — why are you running?  The answer is the same now as it was then.  I have a vision for America.  I want to be part of a return to prosperity.  A true economic boom that lifts all Americans.  A return to a government restrained by The Constitution.   A return to privacy, opportunity and liberty!”  That’s what Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said yesterday in declaring his G O P candidacy for President of the United States.

Cruz: Welcomes Paul to the race

Cruz: Welcomes Paul to the race

Paul made his announcement a day after conservative filmmaker Dennis Michael Lynch announced he would run for president and joins his Senate colleague from Texas, as a big name declared contender for the office.  Interestingly, Cruz issued a statement following Paul’s declaration, saying quote “I am glad to welcome my friend Rand Paul into the 2016 GOP primary.  Rand is a good friend, and we have worked side by side on many issues.  I respect his talent, his passion, and the work he has done for Kentuckians and Americans in the U.S. Senate.  His entry into the race will no doubt raise the bar of competition, help make us all stronger, and ultimately ensure that the GOP nominee is equipped to beat Hillary Clinton and to take back the White House for Republicans in 2016.”
