Sid Glassner(Hour 3b, c)

(Hour 3b) What we’re witnessing in our own backyard with the  implementation of Common Core is a repeat of what has already occurred in communities all across the nation.

Victoria Sullivan called in to comment on the data-driven standards and the adverse effect on Manchester students.  And teachers.

Why didn’t we implement the proven, superior standards of Dr. James Milgram and Dr. Sandra Stotsky, both of whom opposed Common Core?

Senior Fellow Sid Glassner, a man with over 50 years of experience in public education, shared his thoughts on the letter sent home to parents from Weston Elementary School and the critical thinking that real teaching cultivates.  Thinking that is being wiped away by Common Core.

(Hour 3c) We discussed the warning signs against Common Core that were there, but ignored by Manchester officials.

Dave from Hooksett called in to share his frustration about tone-deaf elected officials.  A problem that we allow to happen by giving elected representatives permission, according to Glassner.

Sid elaborated on the nationwide insurrection against Common Core and smarter balanced testing.  Glassner recommended that parents opt their kids out and warned of the consequences of such testing.

“It’s the perfect formula for turning kids off from school and creating kids that hate school.  It (also) strips teachers of the ability to teach.”
