SilverTech, a Manchester-based digital lifecycle agency, has donated twenty five thousand dollars to the STEAM Ahead New Hampshire initiative that will launch at Manchester’s West High School this Fall. The donation will be used to match a twenty five thousand dollar grant given to STEAM Ahead by The Bean Foundation. STEAM Director Bob Baines said the funding will be used to retrofit one of the four classrooms the program will use. SilverTech President Nick Soggu, one of STEAM Ahead’s founders, said the company was excited to support the initiative and hopeful it will inspire the next generation of technology and creative thinkers to become leaders in the community. He also urged other businesses to come forward to fund the transformation of the remaining three classrooms. The retrofits involve new furniture, computer equipment and a build out of a collaborative workspace for students and teachers to integrate into coursework both inside and outside the classroom. Quote: “One of the most inspiring features of the STEAM Ahead NH program is that it integrates traditional classroom settings with real-life experience,” Soggu said. Those who wish to learn more or support the project are asked to contact Baines at bob @ steam ahead n h dot com.
Attorney General Joseph A. Foster and Merrimack Police Chief Mark E. Doyle announced that Denard Debruhl, thirty four, of Merrimack, pled guilty to three counts of selling heroin, two counts of possessing heroin with intent to sell and one count of possessing cocaine. Pursuant to the terms of the negotiated disposition, Debruhl was sentenced to the New Hampshire State Prison for a total of eight to twenty years, stand committed. In addition, Debruhl received suspended prison sentences that the State could seek to impose if Debruhl fails to remain on good behavior upon his release from State Prison. The investigation, which began in January, was conducted by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Drug Task Force and the Merrimack Police Department. The investigation resulted in more than one hundred fifty grams of heroin being seized from Debruhl. Attorney General Foster said: “The problem of heroin abuse has been growing steadily and is one of the greatest challenges facing law enforcement here in New Hampshire and nationwide. While a solution to this problem is multi-faceted and must involve education and treatment, an important part of the solution will continue to be identifying, arresting, prosecuting and incarcerating heroin dealers. Our Drug Task Force remains committed to this goal.”

The New Hampshire Republican State Committee issued a press release saying itfiled a second complaint with New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster, asking him to expand his investigation of Governor Margaret Wood Hassan’s campaign finances after more illegal contributions came to light. N H Journal and the Concord Monitor reported yesterday that the Service Employees International Union Committee on Political Education and the United Food and Commercial Active Ballot Club PAC each gave Hassan ten thousand dollar donations which exceeds the state’s legal contribution limits. Quote: “It is now clear that Governor Hassan has repeatedly and intentionally ignored contribution limits and solicited limitless donations from special interest groups. The governor doesn’t think that she needs to follow the same rules that other candidates follow, and she has made a mockery out of New Hampshire’s campaign finance laws,” said NHGOP Chairman Jennifer Horn. Quote: “Governor Hassan believes that it is acceptable for her to sit in the corner office in Concord and take unlimited amounts of money from special interest groups that have business before state government. This is a clear violation of the spirit and letter of New Hampshire’s finance laws,” said Horn. Hassan had asked the Attorney General for an expedited review of the G O P’s original complaint.
Charging “I don’t know isn’t an answer,” G O P gubernatorial candidate Andrew Hemingway is calling Governor Margaret Wood Hassan to tell Granite Staters whether or not the state already has or will be accepting any of the three hundred thousand children that have crossed our nation’s Southern Border since April. Hemingway said the border crossing children do not present the quote un quote “urgent humanitarian crisis” claimed by President Barak Obama. He said it was an “urgent leadership crisis.” Quote, “The question is whether President Obama has asked his good friend Maggie Hassan to house the illegal immigrants he opened our border doors for.” End quote.
Hemingway pointed to an inquiry made by the The Concord Patch on line newspaper of Hassan’s office as to whether the state will be accepting illegal immigrants as part of the President’s program and printed the following answer from Hassan’s press secretary William Hinkle: Quote “We are not aware of any plans for the state to provide housing support for the surge of children crossing the border.” (http://concord-nh.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/spokesman-no-knowledge-of-plans-to-house-border-children-in-nh)
That brought cat calls from Hemingway who said Quote “You aren’t aware, Governor Hassan? That’s failed leadership. Pick up the phone and be aware.” Hemingway continued, quote ” I have a few questions: Have you been asked to accept illegal immigrants as our neighboring state Massachusetts has? If so, what was your answer? If not, have you called to ask anyone and what is the answer?” Hemingway pointed to recent reports in the Boston Herald exposing several secret flights of illegal immigrants have been flown into Massachusetts and that they are being housed in detention centers around New England. According to Hemingway’s release, Governor’s Hassan’s office has admitted that members of her administration have met with federal representatives about this and reports say that they have been to Massachusetts to meet on this issue. Quote: “Governor Hassan, you are very aware of what is going on–tell us. We are your constituents and it is your duty to inform us. Or, will you instead just follow the lessons of failed leadership provided to us by our President,” Hemingway concluded.
