(Hour 3b, c) Mayor Ted Gatsas gave us his take on last night’s Board of School Committee meeting and the state of affairs with the Hooksett School Board.
Gatsas is excited about all of the new things happening in Manchester educationally.
We also discussed the role of the School Board in hiring new principals.
“The only thing I look at is the residency requirement, ” said Gatsas, “I feel that strongly. If you’re going to get one of the top positions in the City, you should live in the City.”
The Mayor was clear that the standard doesn’t just apply to principals.

We discussed the fight over increasing costs at the Manchester School of Technology, better accessibility for adult learning courses and the STEAM Ahead program.
Gatsas saluted the efforts of former Mayor Bob Baines for his “heavy lifting” in securing major contributors like the Bean Foundation for the program aimed at improving educational opportunity.
“It’s about giving all the kids a chance. Including the bottom 2% that never thought they had a chance.”
