Events for June 15-June 21
Town Parks Grand Summer Opening
The Town of Derry Parks & Recreation Department is announcing opening dates and activities for Hood Park, Don Ball Park, and Gallien’s Town Beach. Please see below for additional information or call the Recreation office at (603) 432-6136.
Hood Park Opening Day:
Monday, June 16, 2014 from 10:00am-6:00pm
Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department this summer at Hood Park! Each week starting today is filled with a fantastic arrangement of activities, held here at Hood Park, located at 4 Rollins Street in the heart of Derry. Events and performances will be held throughout the week and are free of charge unless otherwise noted. Open Monday-Friday with free swim from 12:30-4:00pm daily, there are numerous special events scheduled throughout the summer. 2014 weekly themes will include Spirit Week, Sail into Summer, Patriotic Party, Frozen Frenzy, Into the Jungle, and Under the Big Top. Highlighted special events include Birthday Party for America, Pony Rides, and Carnival Day. This location is also home to swimming lessons, a playground, basketball courts, a concessions stand and more. Don’t miss out on the fun at Hood Park this summer! Hood Park Courts Resurfacing
The Basketball and Hockey Courts at Hood Park are scheduled to be painted and resurfaced beginning Monday, June 9th and this project will continue during the weekend and throughout the week of June 16th. The courts will remain CLOSED until the project is completed. These repairs are weather contingent. No one is allowed to use the courts during this time. Police will take notice. We appreciate your support, understanding, and cooperation with this project. Updates will be posted to our website on our website by clicking here!
Visit Hood Park at 4 Rollins Street, Derry, for a fun filled week of free events! On Monday, show off your team pride by wearing your favorite sports jersey and create a sports pennant craft. Tuesday put on some wacky socks for a game of kick ball and at 10:30am join staff for story time. On Wednesday make sure to have the Craziest Hair around Town, Thursday dress up in a disguise, and Friday bring along your Best Friend and make sure to dress alike! Sports Day at Hood Park
Monday, June 16th
Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department for opening Day at Hood Park! Show off your team pride by wearing your favorite sports jersey! Also, join us for the craft of the day at Hood Park Every Monday. Today we will be working on “Sports Pennants” from 10am-11:45am & 3:30pm-5:00pm
Hood Park Story Time
Tuesdays beginning June 17th –August 5th at 10:30am
Join the employees of the Derry Parks & Recreation Department, the Derry Public Library and Taylor Library at Hood Park on Tuesday mornings starting today at 10:30am for a special outdoor story time! Enjoy summer books and stories by the pond. No registration required!

Wacky Socks Day
Tuesday, June 17th
Put on some Wacky Socks for today! Enjoy a game of kick ball or go for a swim. Lifeguards are on duty for free swim at Hood Park Monday- Friday 12:30pm- 4:00pm except for during swim screening dates! The Derry Recreation Department will hold story time at Hood Park today at 10:30am!
Crazy Hair Day
Wednesday, June 18th
Today wear it up or wear it down, either way make sure you have the Craziest Hair around Town! As a reminder, today is early bird swim screening at Hood Park from 1:00pm-5:00pm. Please make sure you preregistered with the Recreation Department office prior to attending any Swim Screening event.
Early Bird Swim Screening
Wednesday, June 18th from 1:00pm-5:00pm
Visit Hood Park today for your first chance to be screened for the American Red Cross summer swim program! This screening is only for participants who’ve already registered through the main Recreation office at 31 West Broadway. Please note, that during swim screening the waterfront will be closed. Undercover Day
Thursday, June 19th
Come to Hood Park dressed in a disguise! If swim screening is canceled on Wednesday due to inclement weather, today will be the make up from 1:00pm-5:00pm.Free Funyak Rentals are available daily for individuals who pass a required swim test. Please see a Hood Park employee for more info!
Dress Alike Day

Don Ball Park Official Opening Day!
Friday, June 20th at 10am—7pm
Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department this summer at Don Ball Park & Splashpad! The park and splashpad will now be open throughout the summer season, weather permitting. NEW this year, each week starting today is filled with a fantastic arrangement of activities, held here at Don Ball Park, located at 14 Humphrey Rd in Derry. Events and performances will be held throughout the week and are free of charge unless otherwise noted. This location is also home to Derry’s most expansive playground, the SplashPad, the New Rotary Pavilion, a concessions stand, and more. In addition, groups and citizens interested in hosting gatherings can now contact the Derry Recreation Department at (603) 432-6136 to learn how to go about the registration process. Don’t miss out on the fun at Don Ball Park & SplashPad this summer!
Free Community Cookout
Friday, June 20th
All ages are welcome to visit Don Ball Park on 14 Humphrey Rd, Derry, NH from 2:00pm-4:00pm for the Community Open House Sponsored by the Derry Village Rotary Club! Thanks to the time and effort of this organization, a donation of a beautiful large pavilion was made in the fall of 2013. Please join us as we celebrate their generous gift to the Town of Derry! Gallien’s Town Beach Opening Day!
Saturday, June 21st from 10am-7pm
Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department this summer at Gallien’s Town Beach! The beach is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 21st (weather permitting.) and is a Derry Resident only facility. This park is open daily from 10:00 am– 7:00 pm, weather permitting. During these hours lifeguards are on duty for swimming, the concession stand is available to purchase food and drinks, and the park is open for picnicking, fishing, and launching of non-motorized boats.
The Department also offers kayak, canoe and paddle boat rentals to patrons for a nominal fee when space and staffing permits. The beach will close for the season on Labor Day. Summer Programs Filling up Fast!
The Recreation department is currently accepting summer registrations for programs. Registrations are accepted by mail, in person, or online (depending on participants age). Some of the programs include: Kayak Lessons, American Red Cross Swim Lessons, Pollywog Toddler Swim Lessons, Adult Tennis league, Youth Tennis Camp, Gallien’s Beach Passes, Birthday Party Rentals, Lil’ Samurai Judo, and MORE!
