(Hour 2a, b) NH State Rep. David Hess (R- Hooksett) introduced HB 1509-A in Concord to start the discussion for broadening the base of the Business Enterprise Tax. “Not all 501-3c’s are created equal,” (… read more…) claims Hess, and he cited specific examples of “non-profits that really act like for profits.” What are the specifics of the bill and how would it impact NH Non-Profit organizations big and small? Will it help lessen the burden of the Medicaid Tax?

The Tax Foundation ranks New Hampshire #48 out of the 50 states in the area of the corporate tax, #46 out of 50 in terms of the unemployment insurance rate, and #42 in terms of the property tax (with 1 being the most favorable and 50 the worst). It’s nuts! The lack of a sales or income tax brings us in at #9 overall in its “2014 State Business Tax Climate Index” but socking it to businesses this way is…nuts. Our property taxes are nuts! I bet this has more to do with us losing some high profile businesses than the lack of a right-to-work law.
