Car Wreck in Bedford – Bedford PD Seeks More Information

Bedford, NH — At approximately 12:12 am on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, while on routine patrol, Officer Thomas B. McAuliffe, Bedford Police Department, observed a vehicle being driven erratically in the vicinity of Liberty Hill and County Roads.  Officer McAuliffe followed the suspect vehicle as it proceeded north on Liberty Hill Road and attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Liberty Hill Road and Meetinghouse Roads for multiple motor vehicle violations, however, the vehicle sped north a short distance on Liberty Hill Road before it struck a telephone pole and stone wall.

The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene, leaving three injured passengers behind.  One of the passengers sustained serious head trauma and two passengers were ejected from the vehicle.  

Bedford Police officers, with assistance from a New Hampshire State Police K-9 Team, began tracking the subject driver and continued searching until approximately 3:30 am when an alarm was received for an unoccupied residence on Buttonwood Drive.  Upon investigation, officers detected evidence that indicated the person that forcibly entered the home on Buttonwood may have been the subject wanted in connection with the motor vehicle accident.

At approximately 6:45 am the alleged driver of the vehicle involved in the motor vehicle accident on Liberty Hill Road and forcible entry into the residence on Buttonwood, Mr. Jeffrey Mason, age 19, of Deerfield, NH, was arrested on Meetinghouse Road near the Route 101 ramp by a Hillsborough County Deputy Sheriff after Mr. Mason was initially observed by an assisting NH State Trooper.

Mr. Mason is being charged with Conduct After a Motor Vehicle Accident; Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Conduct; Disobeying an Officer; Burglary (All Felonies) and Resisting Arrest or Detention (Misdemeanor).  As of the press release he is still being treated at a local hospital.  

The Bedford Police Department is also investigating an underage drinking party connected with this matter.
