NEW HAMPSHIRE’S HOTTEST CHEFS COOK TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER

NEW HAMPSHIRE’S HOTTEST CHEFS COOK TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER
Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Manchester Hosts Annual Culinary Event on May 1

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire’s hottest chefs, restaurants, and mixologists will gather for Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation, the premier culinary benefit of the year. Taste of the Nation Manchester raises critical funds needed to support Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger in New Hampshire and across the nation.  This year’s event will be held on May 1st at The Radisson Hotel Center of New Hampshire, 700 Elm Street, Manchester, NH from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a VIP reception beginning at 5:00 p.m. Food Network and Cooking Channel star and New York Times best-selling cookbook author Melissa d’Arabian will attend the event as a special guest.  Tickets for Taste of the Nation Manchester are $75 for General Admission and $100 for VIP and can be purchased by visiting www.tasteofthenation.org/manchester.

Nearly 50 of New Hampshire’s hottest chefs and restaurants will participate in the event.  Guests will enjoy the state’s finest foods paired with wines from 25 of the country’s foremost vineyards and spirits provided by Martignetti Companies of New Hampshire.

In addition to fabulous food and drinks, the event will feature a silent auction of a one of a kind, signed painting of Jeff Bridges, national spokesperson for Share Our Strength. Taste of the Nation Manchester commissioned the painting from Richard Nunez, an internationally renowned Native American artist who will also paint live at the event. Nunez has painted live at the House of Blues in Boston, III Forks in Dallas and wineries throughout Napa Valley California. Additional auction items include a custom-set diamond pendant from Jonathan’s Jewelers (valued at $2,700), an overnight stay at Mill Falls at the Lake and other great prizes. The event will also feature an exclusive VIP section and live entertainment by the Lakes Region Big Band.

“Taste of the Nation brings together the finest of New Hampshire’s culinary world, and helps the children in our community who suffer from hunger every day,” said Basil Stergiou, Co-Chair of Taste of the Nation Manchester. “This is the largest food and wine event in New Hampshire. We expect over 800 guests to eat, drink and support our efforts to end childhood hunger.”

Since 1988, Taste of the Nation has raised more than $75 million and the Manchester event has raised more than $800,000 to fund programs to combat childhood hunger in New Hampshire. Area charities that benefit from the event include The New Hampshire Food Bank, Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire, New Hampshire Farm to School Program and the Manchester Boys and Girls Club.

With nearly 16 million children facing hunger in America (that’s almost one in four), and more than 12% of children in Manchester with inadequate access to nutritious foods, Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation is more vital than ever. The event raises funds to help end childhood hunger in America by ensuring that at-risk children and their families have reliable access to enough nutritious food to thrive. Funds raised through Taste of the Nation events support No Kid Hungry™, Share Our Strength’s campaign to end childhood hunger in America.

Despite these daunting numbers there has been progress. “Since Summer 2011, No Kid Hungry efforts have helped bring more than 34 million additional meals to kids who need them,” said Kim Tufts, co-chair of Taste of the Nation Manchester. “You can make a difference in New Hampshire simply by purchasing a ticket to this wonderful event.”

“An end to childhood hunger in the United States is within reach,” said Bill Shore, Founder and Executive Director of Share Our Strength. “With all the participants in Taste of the Nation Manchester sharing their strength, we are creating more resources to help the children of New Hampshire and our great nation get the nutritious food they need to live healthy, active lives.”

Teens Robbed of I-pod/Cell Phone

MANCHESTER, NH- On Monday, February 11, 2013, at about 6:30 PM, Manchester Police responded to a Clay Street address for a report of a robbery.  On arrival, they met with two 16 year old Manchester teens who reported they had been the victims of a robbery a short time earlier on Somerville Street, near Belmont Street.

According to the boys, they were walking in the area when they were approached by two men, one of whom demanded their belongings, indicating his companion had a gun, although no gun was observed.

One of the boys surrendered his I-pod Nano and Galaxy S3 cell phone and the men left.  They were last seen leaving the area as passengers in an older, dark colored 4-door sedan operated by a third individual who was possibly wearing a red sweatshirt.

The first suspect was described as a white male in his forties, about 6’3” tall with a slender build and dark “stubble” on his face.  He was last seen wearing a dark colored vest and a green “beanie” style hat.  The second man, alleged to have possessed a gun, was described as a clean-shaven white male in his forties with an average height and build.  He was last seen wearing a camouflage shirt and khaki pants.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Manchester Police Department at 668-8711.  Anonymous tips for cash rewards can be made through Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040 or online at manchestercrimeline.org.
