“…what is even more staggering is the fact an elected official isn’t even aware of $263 million dollars in increased taxes included in the budget.”

(Manchester – April 4, 2013) Yesterday, the Democrat-controlled New Hampshire House passed an $11 billion dollar budget. The House-passed budget would be a 10% increase in all funds, and a 4% increase in state general fund spending over the next two years at $2.7 billion.[1]
Within the budget are $263 million in increased taxes: increases in the Gas Tax and the Tobacco Tax, business tax audits and suspended tax reforms. However, when asked about these tax increases, newly-elected State Rep. William O’Neil actually says there are no tax increases in the House-passed budget.[2]

Derek Dufresne, spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, Inc, made the following statement:
“It is appalling that the New Hampshire House passed an irresponsible budget that relies primarily on higher taxes and more spending. Granite State families are already struggling, but what is even more staggering is the fact an elected official isn’t even aware of $263 million dollars in increased taxes included in it.
“Call Rep. William O’Neil at 603-644-5277 and let him know he’s wrong about the House-passed budget. Tell him it raises taxes on hard-working middle-class families and that we simply can’t afford it.”
