Taxes not paid
New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and Department of Revenue Administration Commissioner John T. Beardmore announced that a Hillsborough County Grand Jury has indicted forty seven year old Stylianos “Steve” Asprogiannis of Bedford on four counts of tax evasion, two counts of theft, one count of conspiracy to commit tax evasion and one count of falsifying physical evidence. Asprogiannis owns and operates Zoey’s Pizza in Manchester. The theft charges allege that Asprogiannis, stole over one hundred two thousand dollars in monthly meals and rentals tax payments from September first, 2 0 1 1 through June thirtieth of last year. The remaining charges relate to Asprogiannis’s attempt to evade paying over one hundred thousand dollars in business profits taxes.
Asprogiannis: Indicted
Asprogiannis’ tax preparer, sixty one year old Maria Panourgias of Windham, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit tax evasion for her role in attempting to defraud the Department of Revenue Administration during its audit of Zoey’s Pizza. The theft charges against Asprogiannis are Class A felonies and are punishable by up to seven and a half to fifteen years at the State Prison. All other felony offenses charged against Asprogiannis and Panourgias constitute Class B felonies punishable by up to three and a half to seven years.
Katsiantonis: Next?
As a side note, Zoey’s was raided at the same time as Grand Slam Pizza and Tommy K’s Restaurant, both of which are owned by Manchester Ward Eight Alderman and State Rep. Tom Katsiantonis. The investigation into Katsiantonis’ business dealings continues. The state has filed papers saying he owes nearly half a million dollars in unpaid taxes.

On January 7th, inventor Dean Kamen challenged FIRST teams across the country to partner with their local police chief. Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas and Police Chief Nick Willard accepted Kamen’s challenge and days later a pilot program at the Manchester Police Athletic League was born. Mentors from Autodesk, DEKA and the Manchester Police Department stepped up to work with M-PAL youth. Ten weeks later they are ready to test their robot design and scrimmage with local NH FIRST Tech Challenge teams and the public is invited to their big kick off this Wednesday from three thirty to five thirty at the Manchester Police Athletic League’s Michael Briggs Community Center at the corner of Beech Street and Lake Ave.

Candia School Board: More out of towners being called in
Looks like the public hearing the Candia School Board will hold this Thursday on its transgender/ gender non-conforming policy is going to be one for the record books. As we reported last Friday, L G B T Q activists have put out the call for policy supporters to attend the hearing and testify. That apparently didn’t sit well with a number of folks in town who reached out to Cornerstone Action, the conservative, non-partisan issues advocacy organization that led the opposition to the Bathroom Bill in Concord, for help. In an email sent on Friday, Cornerstone wrote, quote:

Parents in Candia have reached out to Cornerstone, and we’re sharing their concerns with you.
Last year, the Candia School Board ignored the community’s parents by adopting a policy allowing K-8 boys and girls to use the same bathrooms and locker rooms. The policy allows the school to withhold information from parents. It could also affect athletics. This situation brings to mind this year’s fight at the state level over the bathroom bill, which would have put women’s privacy and safety at risk in an attempt to accommodate transgender individuals.
The Candia board will hold a public hearing on the local Transgender Policy on Thursday, June 1, at 6 p.m. at the Henry Moore School Cafeteria, 12 Deerfield Road in Candia. Please attend to support the parents who request repeal or revision of the policy for the sake of our children’s privacy and parents’ rights. Interest groups will be there to pressure the school board and community to drop any challenge to the policy. New Hampshire is watching and Candia parents need your support! You can help by forwarding this message to friends and family in Candia.
Public schools in New Hampshire are being pressured to adopt this “optional” policy promoted by special interests. Be on the lookout in your school district for a similar policy.

Morse: Captures the day’s spirit
As you know, today is Memorial Day and Senate President Chuck Morse, Republican from Salem, issued a statement we think captured the spirit of the day as well as anything we’ve seen, so here it is, quote:
On Memorial Day we should take special pause to remember the men and women who dedicated their lives to upholding our nation’s founding freedoms and serving to defend the State of New Hampshire and our country on behalf of every American.
These fearless individuals fought and lost their lives to preserve the liberties that individuals, like you and me, enjoy every day.
This coming Monday and every day, we should recognize the individuals who died while serving for their patriotism, loyalty, and thankless dedication to our state and nation. We should also remember to thank all of the men and women who have lost a loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms today and every day.
Hopefully, we can all agree with that.
Gov. Christopher Sununu has ordered all flags to half mast to commemorate Memorial Day. He also issued a proclamation, which we’ve linked to from this news read at Girard at Large dot com. In a statement issued by his office, Sununu said he ordered the flags to half mast at the request of President Donald Trump, as made in his Memorial Day Proclamation, which we’ve also linked to from this news read. Trump asked Americans to pray for permanent peace.
