Manchester Police responded to the area of Elm Street and Depot Street around 9:40 p.m. last night for an armed robbery. Officer Matthew McDonald located four individuals walking westerly on the Granite Street Bridge moments after the robbery was reported by the victim; Travis Fitzgerald, 25 of Manchester, New Hampshire.
The victim stated he was parked at the end of Depot Street when four individuals approached him. He stated one of the young men had pointed a black handgun at him while demanding cash, so he handed them his wallet, which contained a small amount of cash and credit cards. He provided a brief description of the four individuals which was relayed to the officers on the street.
Officer McDonald located four teenagers on the Granite Street Bridge shortly after the call was dispatched. He made contact with the four men and ordered them to stop on the bridge. Three of the four parties complied while the fourth person continued walking away from the officer. Officer McDonald caught up with the non-compliant 18 year-old and sat him on the ground while additional officers arrived on scene. The 18-year old was identified as arrested, Jafet Centeno, 18 of Manchester, New Hampshire. He was taken into custody and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and resisting arrest/detention. He will appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on October 31, 2016.
Officer McDonald located an unloaded .45 caliber handgun on one of the juveniles. The three juveniles were taken into custody and placed at YDSU. Officer Ryan Brandreth and his K-9 Colt located the victim’s wallet a short time later. The wallet was returned to Fitzgerald.
Manchester City Marathon
The Manchester City Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016. The marathon starts at 8:50 AM and will last until approximately 2:30 PM. The marathon will cause traffic delays in certain parts of the city, so please be aware of the following street closures and areas affected;
Elm Street will be closed from Bridge Street to Lake Avenue for the entire length of the event. There will be significant delays crossing the Granite Street Bridge throughout the day. The Bridge Street Bridge will be closed for a portion of the day, so motorists are urged to use the Amoskeag Bridge or the Queen City Bridge while the marathon takes place.
The marathon encompasses the entire City but may cause significant traffic delays in the following areas;
River Road;
Hooksett Road in the area of Livingston Park;
Hanover Street, from Mammoth Road to Elm Street;
Mammoth Road, from Bridge Street to Lake Avenue;
South Main Street, from Walker Street to Blaine Street,
McGregor Square, from Bridge Street to Bremer Street;
Hanover Street, from Maple Street to Elm Street will be restricted and should be avoided.
Motorists are encouraged to minimize driving on the aforementioned streets during the marathon. Motorists are also encouraged to seek alternate routes, such as the interstate system, to reach opposite areas of the city. Officers will be instructed to work with the motoring public, especially in the Elm Street area, to accommodate those who live in the immediate vicinity or wish to like to visit local businesses.
