Derry Fire Department Recruit Class
Press Release
From: Battalion Chief Jack Webb Date: 22 May 2013
Re: Recruit Graduation
On May 17, the Derry Fire Department completed a three week long recruit school for four new Derry Firefighters. The four recruits are Firefighter/EMT Anthony DeRosa, Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Hickey, Firefighter/Paramedic Joshua Ledbetter, and Firefighter/EMT Robert Marini. All recruits hired by the Derry Fire Department had a minimum certification of Firefighter Level 2, and experience with other departments.
The Recruit School was coordinated by Derry Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Beinhaur. He was assisted by Derry Fire Lt. Ed King, Firefighter James Hoffman, Firefighter Steve Hussey, and Battalion Chief Jack Webb; Gilford Fire Department Deputy Chief Richard Andrews and Firefighter Nick Proulx; and Concord Fire Department Lt. Tom Frier.
The purpose of the Recruit School is to train the new recruits to work as members of an effective fire/rescue team. During the three weeks the firefighters trained on physical fitness, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), firefighter safety and survival, fire behavior and flashover, engine and truck company operations, vent- enter-isolate and search (VEIS), and vehicle rescue. Recruit School is only the beginning, over the next year all the new firefighters are responsible for completing a detailed probationary firefighter manual.
The Derry Fire Department would particularly like to thank Chief Steve Carrier and the entire staff of the Gilford Fire Department. They allowed us to use their new, live fire, training facility; provided instructors, and additional firefighters that allowed our recruits to do two days of live fire training.
The four recruits bring a variety of skills and experience to the Derry Fire Department. Firefighter/EMT Anthony DeRosa grew up in Salem and graduated from St. John’s College where he played baseball. He is a fitness professional and call firefighter with the Pelham Fire Department. Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Hickey is a

Firefighter/EMT Rob Marini grew up in Derry and graduated from Pinkerton Academy, he is a member of the Auburn Fire Department, and last year was a Drift Formula 1 Crew Chief for Retaks Racing.
