Bishop of Manchester to Ordain Two Transitional Deacons

Bishop of Manchester to Ordain Two Transitional Deacons
 
(MANCHESTER, NH) Bishop Peter A. Libasci will ordain Jeffrey A. Paveglio and Michael S. Zgonc to the transitional diaconate at St. Joseph Cathedral in Manchester at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013. All the faithful are welcome to attend.
 
The diaconate is the first of three ranks of ordained ministry in the Catholic Church, which also include priesthood and the episcopacy, or ministry of a bishop. Men studying for the priesthood are ordained as transitional deacons prior to beginning their final year of study before ordination to the priesthood. Some of the duties assigned to deacons include preaching at Mass, baptizing, and celebrating weddings.
 
Mr. Paveglio was born June 16, 1985 in Concord, NH. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2007 with a BA in Political Science. During college he participated in ROTC and received an honorable discharge. He entered St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore in the fall of 2007. At that time he was accepted as a chaplain candidate for the New Hampshire Army National Guard. Jeff is a member of the St. Mary’s Seminary Schola and serves as a cantor. His summer parish assignments during seminary included St. John Neumann Parish in Merrimack and St. Andre Bessette Parish in Laconia where he also served a pastoral year. This summer he will be serving in Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin. Mr. Paveglio will be vested as a transitional deacon at his ordination by the Rev. Paul M. Gousse, pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Rochester and Saint Leo Parish in Gonic.
 
            Mr. Zgonc was born February 5, 1983 in Akron, OH. He graduated from the University of Toledo Magna Cum Laude in 2005 with a BBA in Business Administration. Following college he worked as a human resources representative at BAE Systems in Nashua, NH.  He entered St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore in the fall of 2008. In April, the faculty of St. Mary’s named Michael the Cardinal Shehan Scholar for 2013-2014, with a grant of $1,000, to foster his education. His summer parish assignments during seminary included Christ the King Parish in Concord, and the St. Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. This summer he will be serving in Saint Andre Bessette Parish in Laconia. Mr. Zgonc will be vested as a transitional deacon at his ordination by the Rev. Gary J. Belliveau, pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in Portsmouth.
 
The Diocese of Manchester currently has twelve men preparing for the priesthood at seminaries in Baltimore, MD; Brighton, MA; and Providence, RI.

Teens Robbed of I-pod/Cell Phone

 

MANCHESTER, NH- On Monday, February 11, 2013, at about 6:30 PM, Manchester Police responded to a Clay Street address for a report of a robbery.  On arrival, they met with two 16 year old Manchester teens who reported they had been the victims of a robbery a short time earlier on Somerville Street, near Belmont Street.

 

According to the boys, they were walking in the area when they were approached by two men, one of whom demanded their belongings, indicating his companion had a gun, although no gun was observed.

 

One of the boys surrendered his I-pod Nano and Galaxy S3 cell phone and the men left.  They were last seen leaving the area as passengers in an older, dark colored 4-door sedan operated by a third individual who was possibly wearing a red sweatshirt.

 

The first suspect was described as a white male in his forties, about 6’3” tall with a slender build and dark “stubble” on his face.  He was last seen wearing a dark colored vest and a green “beanie” style hat.  The second man, alleged to have possessed a gun, was described as a clean-shaven white male in his forties with an average height and build.  He was last seen wearing a camouflage shirt and khaki pants.
