After two hours of compelling debate, some of which was so moving that it silenced the chambers, the House voted 199 to 164 to kill SB152, the casino bill backed by the Governor and previously passed by the Senate. On the reconsideration vote, a more accurate picture of House opposition, the bill was crushed by 212 to 155.
Notwithstanding the most intense lobbying and arm twisting ever for a New Hampshire casino bill, the margin of defeat was greater than the 42 vote margin for HB593 in 2012, when Governor Lynch had promised to veto ANY casino bill.
“The House now has an unbroken, two-decades long record of rejecting casinos. It’s time for the legislature and the governor to find a new and better approach the budget making and to moving our economy forward,” said Jim Rubens, chair of the Granite State Coalition Against Expanded Gambling.
