RAISING OF THE PAVILION DATE IS SET
MERRIMACK, NH – The Rotary Club of Merrimack has set the date for the “raising” of the Roger Duhamel Pavilion located at Watson Park in Merrimack. The date is Saturday, April 27, 2013 starting at 8:00am (if necessary the rain date is Saturday, May 4, 2013). The “raising” of the timber frame structure will require a crane and several experienced contractors to complete. The frame will be completed in one day and will be topped off with a little pine tree. It should be a fun show to observe. Construction of the roof and shingling will take a little longer. The pavilion was called for within the Watson Park Master Plan and Bill Wilkes thought it would be a great project for Rotary while he was the club’s President. The Town of Merrimack supported the idea along with the Merrimack Parks and Recreation Committee.
The Roger Duhamel Pavilion, named for a founding member of the Rotary Club of Merrimack, is a 900 square foot pentagon. The pavilion, bordering the Souhegan River, will be used by residents for concerts, theatrical productions, children’s theater, educational presentations, outdoor activities, get-togethers, picnics and good cheer. The raising will be conducted by Rotarians and community volunteers.
“Fundraising and in-kind contributions have been so successful over the past two years that the structure is fully paid for,” said Rotarian Peter Flood, who is heading the effort. “However, it will take about $6,000 to $8,000 more to bring electricity and a sound system to the site and do some landscaping. So, we still are seeking more donations from local donors.”
To contribute to the pavilion, checks can be made out to the “Merrimack Rotary Foundation,” P.O. Box 181, Merrimack, NH 03054. Please place in the memo line the word “pavilion.” The Rotary extends special thanks to its sponsors for this project.
