Pinkerton Academy Wood working program provides Derry Fire Department Central Station with new table

The Pinkerton Academy Wood working program provides the Derry Fire Department Central Station with a new table.

The Derry Fire Dept. Central Station will be taking delivery of a new table for the kitchen at Central Station that was built by the Pinkerton Academy Building Construction Technology Class.  Three students attending PA from Pelham built the table out of solid 2 x 12 pine boards.  The added mahogany strips between the pine table top boards and around the border of the table.  Students also added a ‘slight bend’ on the ends of the table to add additional character.

The table will be brought back to the Derry Fire Department to have the Department Logo hand painted by Firefighter Dave Deacon.

The table is used by the Departments 4 shifts of 6-7 firefighters staffing the Central Station around the clock.  Interestingly, replacing the prior table came with great controversy among the crews as many stories of triumph and tragedy are shared at the table.  The center of the old table that was hand painted by one of the firefighters in the past will be hung on the wall with a plaque honoring all prior members who have retired from the Department since the Central Station was built.

DFD members will pick up the table and meet the students at 1230 on Friday 04/12/13 at the PA Low Building.

Additional Remarks:

The Derry Fire Department enjoys a close working relationship with Pinkerton Academy on many fronts including student observation time.  The Department paid for the raw materials and the table was completed as a part of the students training program.
