Manchester Police Patrolman's Association President Steven Maloney called on Alderman at-Large Joe Kelly Levasseur to either resign or recuse himself over his openly hostile and derogatory comments made about Manchester police officers, including calling them "dopes, clowns, jerks, buffoons and an embarrassment to the city." What should happen?

Like what Joe said or not. Joe has this old dusty paper called the Constitution and the First Amendment gives him the right to speak. The Second Amendment guarantees that right.

but is it appropriate for an elected official to conduct himself in such a manner? Having been present in the chamber at the time of the alleged offense,I can say, confidently, that the incident didn't happen as claimed (read my postings at Oh My BLOG!). Even if they did, is that reason for an elected official to condemn an entire police force as "hot headed," "dopes, clowns, jerks, buffoons and an embarrassment?" He's using his elected position to foment anger with the department, which could very easily escalate into it's own public safety issue. At what point are people responsible for their words and actions? That's my issue, especially since Joe's making things up.
